After one breakfast here, I am ready to pronounce Bob's to be the perfect diner. The all-important hash brown test? Passed with flying colors. Our waitress said the cornbeef hash would be the best we ever tried - and she was right! Everything is made from scratch with wonderful attention to detail. Now I really want to go back to try the beefalo and other lunch and dinner items. It looks like my sister in Vermont is going to have to tolerate more frequent visits from her Connecticut brother.

Food was very good and came out fast. Just passing through town-never been anywhere around here before-and this diner made our journey much more pleasurable. It was very crowded and this looked like a real local place. Definitely stop by for some home-good-feeling breakfast or lunch!

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Device was fast. Excellent BLT, daughter loves the pancakes.

Solid diner with great service. Came here before heading to the outlets on a weekday morning - the locals were already set up at a big table when we walked in, so we grabbed a booth. I ordered an omelette with sausage, onions, peppers and Cabot cheese - very good! My boyfriend ordered one of the skillets and loved it. The coffee was also pretty decent for a diner. Cash only.

The coffee is bomb and the food is masterful. I'm going to stay the night on the floor of Bob's, just because I don't think I can leave.

Bob's is a solid 4 stars, well worth the half-hour drive if you're in Bennington. I've had the corned beef hash twice, and the Beefalo Burger once. Although the first hash trip was a bit better than the second, it's still the best corned beef hash I've ever had. So good, in fact, on the first try I didn't even add hot sauce! On the second trip, they offered some hollandaise sauce with the corned beef hash, which was pretty good, but the sauce was much thicker than a quality home-made hollandaise should be. The Beffalo Burger (I got mine as a single-patty Whopper-Beefalo Burger) hit the spot the other day, when I was in Manchester and had a quality-burger craving. The employees are kind and hospitable, and seem to enjoy one another and the customers. I'll definitely be back.

There are diners that are the real deal: classic railway style, all gleaming chrome and worn formica, an artifact from an age when everybody smoked before, during and after their meals. And then there are "prefab" places, seemingly springing up like a context-free mushroom, devoid of place or past. Bob's is in the latter category, but that's only going to bug you if you're a diner cultist. Forge on, check out the giant menu. Plenty of burger choices celebrating "beefalo" (bison/beef cattle cross). These were pronounced very juicy but strangely devoid of flavor. House made hash for the win! Long strands of corned beef, nicely sauteed onions. I bypassed the hollandaise option, but in hindsight I'd say go for it. What does one drink with a "backwards dinner" (aka breakfast for dinner)? Can you pair a wine with hash (white? red? sparkling?)? I went with Vermont's Official Beer - Switchback, and was happy. Only a little sad on the way out when I saw a poster touting that Citizen Cider is now available at Bob's. Personal practice suggests that cider is THE beverage to choose to compliment a backwards dinner. Our lovely young inked waitress was unflappable in the face of this table of 13 or so. Props to her for dealing with complicated check breakouts, people arriving at different times, etc. She's a pro at a very young age.

The waitress was friendly and the juke box was appealing. However, the meatloaf was reheated and had two kinds of gravy on it. When I enquired I was informed that new staff put turkey gravy and then when it was caught, they just put on the beef gravy. The meat loaf was ok, and the mashed were fine. The intrepid eater had eggs benedict which he liked. I am down grading this to two because in addition to the the gravy fiasco (the plate should have been redone), there were a lot of flies in the restaurant, and the air-conditioning was an antique, ( in keeping with the fifties theme,) the air conditioner sounded like you were near an airplane about to take off. I probably should have left and gone down the street.

We were actually really impressed with this place! We have affectionately nicknamed it Chrome Bob but the breakfast was delicious! The waitress, who was so incredibly friendly, told us the corned beef hash was the best ever tasted. She was right! SOOOOO goooood!!!! Definitely worth the stop!

Consistently good diner food. Great eggs and toast, grilled sandwiches and pancakes. The interior is just want you want a diner to look and feel like, a perfect casual and inexpensive option for breakfast, brunch or lunch!

Visiting family for the holidays from NYC. The prices were perfect and the food was great! Adorable atmosphere and sweet staff. There were 7 of us and it accommodated well. $1 PBR!??! Only problem is the little table juke boxes ate our quarters and didn't work. We tried 2 of them.

Bob's breakfast is excellent! The waitress was friendly and upbeat and it seemed like it was a mix of locals and tourists which is pretty cool. We really enjoyed this diner and we will definitely be back!

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible. We decided to take a last minute getaway to Londonderry and on the way to our place stopped in for breakfast. Two of us ordered pancakes and when they came I noticed an overbaring sour taste. I called the waitress and told her that the pancakes tasted very sour and she seemed annoyed by my comment. I asked to replace instead with buttered toast. Rather than bringing the toast, she returned with our check which was incredibly rude. In the spirit of keeping things positive for our family getaway, we decided to still leave a nice tip..and the waitress refused the tip. Never again.

We came here for breakfast Columbus day weekend, and had a long half-hour wait. Something told me to stick around, and I am glad that I did. The waitress was fast, and efficient, and the food was great. My husband, who is picky about his omelets said that the one he had here was the best he ever had. Same for the coffee. Although they were packed to the gills, with lots of folks waiting outside, we never felt rushed, or that the food was in any way compromised. We were so impressed that we came back for dinner. We should have quit while we were ahead. The beefalo burger was very good, but small. The small portion of fries was very good. My husband had the meatloaf and was unimpressed. He's not a big gravy fan, so I dipped my fries in it, and found it to be one of the best I've ever had. They make it with marsala wine. I also had the butternut squash bisque, which I wasn't charged for because the waitress forgot about it. She did bring it while I was half-way through my meal. But alas, it was much too sweet for my taste. If you eat here on a sunny day, try not to sit near the front windows, as you will bake. That was the only down side I found. We will definitely only eat here when we visit Southern Vermont in the future. But only for breakfast.

  • Joe K.

Great breakfast. I ordered the 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes. The eggs were the best I've ever had! The sausage was very very good. The pancakes were excellent. The only strange thing was the waitress asked me, "would you like 'real' Vermont maple syrup or Mrs. Buttersworth?" Ummmmm, Vermont, of course!!! Bob's has the BEST coffee I've ever had at any breakfast restaurant EVER!!!

  • Jack B.

Ah. Every town has a go to place and not many have a traditional diner. Manchester Center has both. Bob's fits the bill on both. Breakfasts with choices of Benedict's, omelettes, skillet. Friendly. If lived here this is aggo to place. Back next day. As good as the 1st.

Exactly what I expected & everything that we needed after an amazing weekend of skiing & snowboarding with the whole family at Stratton - the food is real & delicious - the waitress was working her you know what off to keep everyone's cups full. Perfect breakfast - the bacon is a must-have. We will be back for sure!

Every time my sister and I go there it's incredible good and the service is always extremely polite. If you are in Vermont, Bobs is a very affordable, delicious place to eat!

This place was the best diner I've ever been to. Our party of 7 was seated in 10 minutes during peak ours. The food was not only exceptional, but served extremely quickly. The coffee was great which I never expect from a diner. The home fries were amazing and a must have. There was no problem with splitting the check or paying. It was inexpensive and delicious. The bathrooms were clean although the hot water handle was broken. That was literally my only complaint. If you're in the area you have to stop by.

Decide to stop in for dinner a week or so ago. The family has been here for breakfast & lunch numerous times and we were never disappointed. I ordered chicken marsala. I saw the chicken being prepared didn't think much of it. After a bout 15 - 20 minutes my dinner arrived. I was quite disappointed to see that the chicken was not in medallions but cubed and tossed in penne pasta with some mushrooms. I was able to taste the marsala but the sauce was very watery, tasty but watery. Will try something else for diner soon. So based on numerous visits, three stars over all but for the chicken marsala two (2)

If you are looking for that quintessential American diner then this is the place. Bob's has delicious and inexpensive diner food with all the classic favorites and even some locally grown "beefalo" burgers. Service was excellent with a staff that really seem to enjoy their jobs. Chrome accents, juke box, black and white tiled floor, table juke boxes, counter and table seating, and a clean, uncluttered restaurant adds to the charm of this diner. Conveniently located on a main road (Route11) it is was well worth our drive from Stratton Mountain. We will definitely be visiting Bob's Diner again next time we are in the area.

  • Michelle L.

This is one of those places that looks cool and retro on the outside and is a certified dump on the inside. It has that dirty diner feel along with nasty bathrooms and that chip on your shoulder service. I have to admit, the food was pretty good though; great pancakes, skillets and omelets; but the nastiness of the place and the attitude just took it downhill for me. Some points to note: they take credit cards and serve alcohol. All in all, given the location and lack of other food options, if you need a quick fix, you'll likely get a decent meal. Maybe you can do take-out?!?

  • Christine H.

Hard to rate a diner more than 3 stars but I must. This place is our favorite place to go to get a good, easy meal. Omelets never disappoint and the French toast always hits the spot. Ambiance - it's a diner! The booths could use a little renovation. 3 stars Food - typical diner fare minus the grease 4 stars Price - fair 4 stars Every single person who works here is awesome. Super friendly and on top of their game. The cook knows her way around the griddle. The food is delicious every single time we hit this place.

We were traveling in the area on our fall vacation and decided to try Bob's for breakfast after reading the reviews on Yelp. I got the French toast, eggs, bacon and coffee while the wife got pancakes, eggs and bacon. I mentioned the coffee because I found theirs to be very tasty. I rated my meal a solid 5. My wife rated her meal a solid 5. The coffee is a 5. Just a note, but if you want Vermont maple syrup you will pay $1+ more. We just got their regular syrup. The facility is unique and it gets a 4. The service was great and it gets a 5. The value (our bill came in at less then $19) gets a 5+, Would we go back to Bob's? That is a big yes!

This is a magical place. Went camping with my friends nearby, and we decided to stop by for breakfast. Despite the fact that it was very busy and we had a party of 7, they still managed to seat us almost immediately. The food was excellent, the service was fantastic, and the prices were extremely reasonable. I HIGHLY recommend the home fries. I never usually care about home fries with my meals, but these were so amazing. This was, by far, one of my favorite diner experiences. I wish I lived nearby.

Medium. Certainly nothing special. Don't get me wrong. The food is good, but I guess I wanted to believe it was more than it's name. However, it really is just a diner. The food, while tasty, was nothing special. I had a Belgian waffle with eggs and sausage. My wife had eggs with mushrooms and spinach wish was good. The New England fresh ground coffee was awesome, and I enjoyed the 3 free refills. Kids were standard pancakes and French toast. I guess I was expecting something more special... A real Vermont style breakfast. In the end, it was the same type of food I could've gotten in NJ. I am going to try Up for Breakfast tomorrow. On a side note, the staff was friendly and it was pretty quick.

Literally the best diner experience I've ever had. We had a party of 7 and were seated within 10 min despite the place seeming packed. Our service was fantastic and the food was even better. Wish I lived closer so I could try them again. We went for breakfast and everything was superb. The highlight for me was the home fries. I'm not usually a fan but they were awesome. EAT AT BOB'S!!!!!!

Horrible! I went there for breakfast and they were very crowded, but there was a seat at the end of the counter so I took it. Three times the same waitress went by me and bumped into me and didn't apologize. I couldn't move because I was on a fixed stool. It got way worse! When a group of four got up and left one of the waiters "bused" the table and put all of the dirty dishes right in front of me; since I was on the end of the counter and my breakfast hadn't arrived yet. I couldn't take it any more and a spot had opened in the middle of the counter, so I moved. When my breakfast finally arrived it had "raw" bacon on the plate after I specifically asked for crispy bacon. I picked up a piece of the raw meat to show the waitress that it was uncooked. To my horror I watched the bacon be returned to the "cook" and he just threw it in the serving pan with the other bacon waiting to be served to unsuspecting patrons. What an unsanitary joint along with horrible service. I'm sure they don't care what I think based on the crowd waiting to be seated. You are forewarned, this place should be avoided!

$1 PBRs. A remarkable meatloaf sandwich, excellent burger, eggs and toast for our 2 year old. We had pie and ice cream for dessert. The total? $36!! The service was fast and friendly and accommodating. Casual atmosphere, not fancy and not touristy, just good. This is our new go to place up here.

Phenomenal breakfast! I just had the basics but was well done and a great price point. Asked for my homefries to be crispy and they came out perfect. Classic diner feel :)

So this is not a traditional Diner for New England, but it is close. If you are in this particular area, this is a great place to go. The food is good quality and very tasty. I had a Corned beef hash bene and the Holindase was different, creamy and wonderful. The rest of the food ordered at the table was very, very good. The prices are a bit on the high side for a diner, but very affordable given the alternatives of the area. If you are in the area, this would be the place to go for great, affordable food with wonderful service.

This review is based on lunch. I've passed by Bob's Diner on Routes 11/30, just east of US Route 7 numerous times, but have not stopped in since I've always had to be someplace each time on a schedule. I finally decided to stop at Bob's Diner for lunch, not to be confused with another Bob's Diner, a popular 24-7 greasy spoon located 55 miles away in Watervliet, NY. The atmosphere here is that of a retro 50s style diner with some Vermont flair inside. The outside of the diner is shiny stainless steel. Take a look at your reflection on the exterior of the diner as you enter, and you've been transformed into an Oompa Loompa. The inside of the diner is cozy with tile floors, lunch counter seating (stools), and several tables and booths. There's a shiny jukebox (plays CDs, with music from back in the day and 2K with several Now CDs in the mix) and some mini jukeboxes at select booths and at the counter. The menu offerings include the typical classic American diner fare including standard breakfast dishes (served anytime), soups, chili, salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, seafood, diner classics (meatloaf, stroganoff, turkey dinner, black angus sirloin steaks, mac & cheese, & pasta dishes), and desserts (pies, ice cream sundaes). A kids menu is offered. Beer and wine served here including Pabst Blue Ribbon Pints for only $1.00. The beefalo burgers are locally raised from Mount Brook Farm in Dorset. The prices are pretty fair, most items under $10 except for sirloin ($11-$15). I was in the mood for pasta, so I ordered the Chicken Tuscany ($9.95): penne pasta sauteed with tomatoes, capers, onions, mushrooms, & grilled chicken, served in a marsala sauce. The food arrived piping hot in under 10 minutes. I did find a small hair along the side of the casserole dish, not in the food though. The Chicken Tuscany was a decent dish, which had very al dente penne pasta with fresh ingredients and tender chicken pieces. The overall taste was on the bitter side, very heavy on the marsala wine sauce. Some bread or a roll would've been a nice accompaniment with this pasta dish. The service was friendly and efficient with refills on the ice water and the check was presented promptly after I passed on the offer for dessert. I was headed out for ice cream later on in the day with friends. Back on the road again and on my way to NY, driving on some dirt roads along the way, getting a little mud on the tires.

Bob's is a great place for breakfast. Not your typical diner food. Everything here is cooked to order and nice fresh clean food. They have these cast iron skillet breakfasts loaded with all kinds of veggies and home fries and cheese and then topped with a couple of eggs prepared how you like them. All serves in a cast iron skillet. Their toast is made with house made hearty bread. It is delicious. So as far as breakfast this place is definitely recommended.

Relative to other Diners and I have been to the best of them near Philly and NYC, Bob's food is very good. Stop there once or twice a year with family coming down from Ludlow, VT. Great tradition after skiing. Soups are nice, hash is excellent, burgers are good, shakes top it off. It's a little grungy and service is usually ok. Definitely at stop if nearby.

    (4)
  • Katie H.

Hands down best restaurant in the area! Unfortunately the abundance of tourists ruin it in the winter skiing season but it is still a favorite! They still serve their milkshakes in real glasses and the root beer floats are amazing! The dollar beer specials only add value to the experience! Truly a must stop place

A friend of mine who lives in town recommended we eat here for breakfast while visiting. Great choice! The food was delicious, the wait staff was very friendly, and the prices were great. I was surprised when we arrived to see that it's an actual old school diner which is pretty cool. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars which is always a good sign.

Stopped in for breakfast on a Thursday morning. Not especially busy. Was told to sit anywhere. I sat and waited off more than 10 minutes and watched while other tables were being served, but a waitress never came to my table. It was like I was invisible. And it's hard got me to be invisible since I'm a really big guy and I was wearing a bright red shirt. I was too much of an introvert to yell across the diner for service, so I just got up and left. It was a really strange experience. Needless to say, I won't be returning.

Great! The Eggs Benedict and Egg Norway were great. Didn't have pancakes but they looked great. Also, THEY HAVE BEER!

The cutest little diner in VT. All I can say is corned beef hash. It is THE BEST corned beef hash ever. I just want to get a whole tub of it and sit in my room all day. Seriously, the best I ever had. Clean, friendly waitstaff, even if you are from out of town lol. 5 stars!

  • Frederick G.

Loved this place. They use awesome fresh ingredients and its very reasonably priced. Our waitress was very charming and polite. Will be going here again!! Growing up in VT I didn't spend much time in southern VT... Was exploring while at the Frendly Gathering and found this place on my phone! Yummy Rubens and perfect onion rings. My friend Alexandra's breakfast plate looked OUT of THIS wOrLd!!!

This place was right across from our hotel, it was great for breakfast, delicious food and a wide selection. It was a holiday so they were busy but we were able to sit right away at the counter. Service was quick and friendly!

  • Becky B.

We were staying in the area for a few days and stopped in for lunch before we could check into our hotel and breakfast on our way out of town. Both times the food was delicious and service was friendly (had the same waitress and she recognized us!). We will definitely be back next time we are staying in Manchester!

    (5)
  • CJ L.

I didn't want to eat a big expensive dinner while in Manchester, VT. Overall, the food was good. I had the meatloaf and a glass of water. The waitress was very attentive. As far as I can tell, the place is clean, although I didn't check out the restroom. They close at 830pm or so. It was a quick in and out, and it was satisfying. From Los Angeles, so I don't know how it ranks against other small town diners.

    (4)
  • Kimberly R.

Ok but fatally flawed. No matter the quality of the food or service, the giant pack of pushing and shoving bodies around the front door is intolerable. A few simple changes to the layout could solve this. But the horrific entrance combined with a lack of a hostess desk leads to chaos, confusion, and potential injury as guests are alternatively bashed by the door and trampled by each other in their battle to be seated. There were three empty tables when we arrived but the baffled employees couldn't navigate the bodies to get them cleared and the wait was both unnecessary and frightening as we were pushed, kicked, and squashed by more entering people. Fix the layout, train the employees how to organize and seat crowds, and this could be a great diner. For now it's an injury lawsuit in the making. I strongly suggest you have a xanax appetizer before arriving.

if your on your way to or from stratton and you need to eat breakfast this a must stop. I really dont know if you can find a better breakfast in the area. The skillets are definitly the way to go.. also they have PBR's for $1.. ill repeat that for my fellow snowboarders.. pbr $1

  • James D.

Keep driving, this place hasn't been cleaned in years. Waitress was very attentive. My friend claims the skillet breakfast was the dish to get......It looked like greasy eggs & day old has browns perhaps cooked with lard very unappetizing.

I needed lunch and found that Bob's Diner needed a little capital investment in plant property and equipment. But when you can get breakfast for lunch and a good one at that, hard to worry that my seat needed a tape job. French toast tasty enough that I didn't need syrup, scrambled eggs and sausage. All good. I thought $1.75 for a coke was a bit rich and implies a nice profit margin for the beverage department at Bob's, but I didn't go in the joint thinking it was a non-profit. I liked it and would go back.

    (3)
  • Chad Y.

Bob's is a regular dinner stop of ours when traveling from PA to Vermont. Their burgers are out of this world, especially when washed down with a $1.00 PBR on tap. Be sure to get some boneless hot wings to share too! The jukebox is also a nice touch.

    (4)
  • Sucre-ski S.

def the best breakfast in the area. get the corned beef hash ... it's made with actual corned beef, you know with the bits and meat strings that get stuck in your teeth ... not that dog food that comes out of a can. a little saltier than i typically like but i really doubt that's an issue for most other people. oh and they offer to do separate checks so be nice. bring your sunglasses because if you're sitting by the window, you're going to bake if the sun's out. and the lot is dirt and mud, so don't wear your nice shoes. not that you should be anyways.

    (4)
  • John C.

Great food. Good service. Looks like a 1950's diner and even has the milkshakes, but also has a modern menu. A great beefalo burgers and awesome fries. Booth jukeboxes with a wide range of tunes. Well worth the stop.

    (4)
  • Alan K.

It is a good diner. My daughter had pancakes, my son had a cheese burger, my wife had a veggie burger and I had beef stroganoff with a $1 PBR draft. Everyone was satisfied and too full for dessert. Next time we will need to try the milkshakes too.

This place was very dirty, I'm pretty sure my coffee cup wasn't washed. The food was not good, something tasted off in my breakfast skillet, like the skillet it was served in had been cleaned with some kind of chemical. Two stars strictly for the service.

I have been to Bob's Diner with my wife on several occasions in the past but after this last experience, definitely no more. We wanted a simple burger and they could not even get it right. My wife's burger, ordered well-done, was almost crisp and totally dried out. My Beefalo burger, ordered medium, came out medium-raw, medium on the outside and cold and raw in the middle. I asked for it to be cooked more. They threw the burder back on the grill and placed the rest under the warming lamps. I ended up with dry , crisp burger, hot limp lettuce, warm tomato and onion slice and cold soft french fries. And then a bill for over $31. Looking around also revealed more dirt everywhere including even the window sills than exists in my company warehouse. GIVE THIS PLACE A BIG MISS!! Better and cheaper to go to McDonald's. What am I saying, I haven't been there ib years but honestly, $10 for a poor quality burger is over the top and then to have it served with dirt on the side is just unacceptible.
